Friday was a very different day for Will Schofield.

After 14 seasons the premiership veteran walked into the Eagles facility and announced his retirement to the playing squad.

Reflecting on a remarkable career, Schofield shared his journey with Eagles Media podcast Coast to Coast.

In somewhat of a passing of the torch this season, Will and Oscar Allen reflected on his successful 194 game career, which isn't quite over yet.

The reliable defender who turned a hero in the 2018 Grand Final with a magnificent defensive job under pressure revealed how hard it has been being dropped multiple times throughout his career.

“That frustration is a good thing, it means I have been able to learn as a player and as a person, all the match committee has wanted me to be is more consistent,” Schofield says.

Schofield reflected on the two coaches that have guided him since arriving at the club as a 17 year old in late 2006.

“I grew a lot under Woosha as a young man but I also grew as a person under Simmo as I got older with values and as a man.”

He also paid tribute to former team mate turned mentor Mark Nicoski, who played a critical role helping the squad with the mental side of the game in 2018.

“I strongly believe with it we wouldn’t have been able to win the 2018 grand final without Mark Nicoski.”

The consummate professional, Schofield hopes he’ll be remembered as someone who fully embraced being a great team-focused player and providing a positive influence on those around him.

"Doing the little things to connect with people outside of footy has been a big part of my journey."
