West Coast ruck Alicia Janz has become the first Indigenous member of the AFLW Competition Committee.

Janz, a proud Meriam Mir woman from the Torres Strait Islands, will also represent Western Australian interests on the committee after Kara Antonio's term ended earlier this year.

The 30-year-old is also an AFLPA Indigenous advisory board member.

Off the field, she is a coordinator for the Deadly Sista Girlz mentor program, run through the Wirrpanda Foundation.

Janz played 14 AFLW games for Fremantle between 2017 and 2019, joining the Dockers halfway through their inaugural season as an injury replacement player.

She crossed to West Coast on a two-year deal ahead of the 2020, but was ruled out of the Eagles' first season after undergoing surgery on her right meniscus.

Janz was still elected to the club's leadership group despite being unavailable for the season.

AFL General Manager Football Operations Steve Hocking said he was pleased that Janz will be joining the Committee.

"Alicia is an outstanding leader for her club and a genuine role model in the community with a clear passion and commitment for ensuring equal opportunities for everyone," Hocking said.

"We look forward to Alicia's unique insights and perspectives which will no doubt support the progression of the game both on and off the field."
