The former Cat was handed an opportunity to train with West Coast during pre-season under Supplemental Selection Period rules and grabbed the chance with both hands to earn a rookie deal. It wasn’t long until Jones was thrust into the action, making his debut in blue and gold in the round four loss to Port Adelaide when he added some spark to a struggling line-up with 11 touches and three tackles. Backing up a week later, the 22-year-old impressed again as West Coast got back on track with a much-needed win over Sydney, but in the dying minutes pulled up with a hamstring strain that plagued him for the rest of the year. A setback in August saw Jones sent for tendon surgery and his season was effectively finished, but the club had seen enough promise to recontract the small forward for another season.
