The West Coast Eagles saw a three-match winning streak come to an end at the hands of the Greater Western Sydney Giants at Giants Stadium today.

After a tight, tense struggle for most of the game where the greatest margin was 11 points, the Giants finished the game off stronger than the Eagles in winning 13.15 (93) to 11.11 (77)

GWS held sway through the midfield for most of the game, but it took them until the last five minutes of the game to break clear of the determined Eagles.

In the end it was young WA forward Bobby Hill who put the game beyond doubt, with consecutive goals deep into the final term.

The first half was the archetypal arm wrestle as first one team and then the other created the ascendancy.

No more than eight points separated the teams at any stage, as the GWS midfield enjoyed the better of the battle in the engine room it was a case of the Giants enjoying superior supply inside scoring range, while the Eagles were efficient going inside.

The Eagles trailed the inside 50 count 20-26 at the half, but were just a point in arrears with the Giants leading 7.8 (50) to 7.7 (59).

Jacob Hopper and Tom Green and Josh Kelly were ubiquitous through the middle for GWS, while Tim Kelly, Jack Redden and Dom Sheed were doing their best for the Eagles.

In front of goal the presence of Josh Kennedy, Jack Darling, Oscar Allen and also Bailey Williams had a presence and the Giants defence was a little nervous. The Eagles had 10 marks inside 50 for the half and with the exception of Allen all of the big guys hit the scoreboard.

The Giants looked to have the edge in the middle of the third term when their dominance around stoppages was at its best and their advantage in contested possessions continued to provide scoring opportunities for their forwards who shared the spoils.

They skipped out to an 11-point advantage in the middle of the quarter and it could have been greater if not for the efforts of the Eagles defence.
