Waterman endured a difficult year in 2023, with a serious illness ending his campaign after round 12. The heart-and-soul Eagle started the season on fire, kicking a career-best four goals in round two to inspire victory over Greater Western Sydney and following up with another four majors three weeks later against Geelong. Supply dried up and so did the goals as injuries bit West Coast and Waterman’s season was over after 11 consecutive appearances. The son of two-time premiership star, Chris, will be hoping to regain his regular spot in the side in 2024 after signing a two-year contract extension at the end of last season.
