It was sixth time lucky for the mature-age inside midfielder/forward after he first nominated for the draft in 2012. Injuries and his off-season training approach meant he was previously overlooked, until he finished second in the 2017 Sandover Medal after a standout season for South Fremantle. Speedy and skilful, Kelly arrived at the club and took centre stage very quickly. After playing every game in the 2018 season, Kelly was recognised by winning the 2018 AFL Players’ Association Best First Year Player Award, as-well as placing runner-up in the Geelong fairest and best.
