As well as fundraising for our charity partners, the West Coast Eagles also aims to help other charity groups and causes, such as Princess Margaret Hospital and Red Nose.
Princess Margaret Hospital
Throughout the season, West Coast Eagles players visit the brave children who at patients are Princess Margaret Hospital.
Over the past few years, it has also become club tradition for players to attend the PMH Patient Christmas Party at the end of the year.
West Coast's Mark Hutchings visits PMH regularly.
“It’s not always just about playing football," Hutchings said.
"We’ve got an opportunity to have an impact on a lot of other people and this is just one aspect of that.
"It’s always great to get up to PMH and spend a little bit of time with the kids.”
Red Nose
The West Coast Eagles are proud to support the inaugural Red Nose Sunshine Beach Run event. The Sunshine Beach Run, which aims to assist those who have been tragically affected by Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, is an initiative of West Coast Eagles physiotherapist Chris Perkin in memory of his unborn baby Jake and wife Cindy who passed away in 2009.
The event, held at City Beach on February 19, will see the West Coast Eagles squad take some time out from pre-season training to support this worthy cause. Red Nose supports grieving families through bereavement counselling services following the loss of a child from miscarriage, stillbirth, sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), accidents or illness up until the age of two years old. Telethon
The West Coast Eagles and Telethon formed an official partnership in 2008 centring on the ‘Mainy Legends Match for Telethon’. The match played between past greats for the West Coast Eagles and a variety of opposing clubs not only serves to remember club legend Chris Mainwaring, but unites the Western Australian community in raising vital funds for the children’s charity. The ‘Mainy Match’ has helped to raise over $550,000 for Telethon, with all proceeds going towards helping improve the lives of children and young people throughout Western Australia.
