In tricky conditions both sides battled it out with West Coast breaking the game open in the third quarter and Fremantle fighting back early in the last quarter to close the margin.

West Coast were able to steady the game to come off with the 14-point win.

The match started with the clubs Indigenous Player Development Manager, Chance Bateman doing an acknowledgment to country.

The team have been working hard all season in the lead up to the game and had been looking forward to representing the club wearing the blue and gold.

Academies Coach Chad Morrison said it’s been great to see a showcase of young talent and the game was a great reward for their training over the last 7 months.

“It was really exciting to see the young talent coming through, some really good strong kids with elite kicks and just a greater game awareness,” Morrison said.

“A lot of kids can play in a variety of roles and that’s what you want – they can adapt from forward, midfield to backline and be able to do that during the game adds a lot of strings to your own bow.

“We’d like to thank Fremantle and Wade Spilcker as well as our partner BHP.

“Without BHP these kids wouldn’t have the opportunity to play our programs with no cost, it’s an inclusive program for Indigenous and Multicultural boys, and they really enjoy what they get out of the program.”

The next game will be with the 15 to 16s multicultural team in late August at Mineral Resources Park.
