Putting a smile on the faces of the kids at Camp Quality was high on the priorities today for recently retired West Coast player Michael Braun.

With the help of stars Andrew Embley and Chad Fletcher, Braun handed over a cheque for $8000 to Aloysius, a Camp Quality kid and West Coast fan.

The money raised will be used to run over 50 different recreational, educational, hospital and financial support programs for the kids and their families.

During the midfielder’s last two years at West Coast, 228-game veteran Michael Braun kicked off the “Pay Play” initiative where players would donate part of their salaries to this worthy charity.

“I told the players to dig deep and from match payments we receive we were able to raise enough money to help support a charity that’s close to my heart,” Braun said.

The program will continue over 2009 where the funds raised will be able to brighten the lives of kids and families living with childhood cancer through “fun therapy” programs.

“From the players who played each week, a portion of their match payments was set aside to go towards this charity, so it’s good to see the boys are doing their bit for the community,” Braun said.

“Given all the other commitments they have to charities within the community, to get behind another charity was fantastic.”

In the past, the club has assisted Camp Quality with initiatives such as the Joseph Ashton Circus, training clinics and the Chandon Supper Club.
