Last time we met:

West Coast 14.16 (100) defeated GWS 11.15 (81) at Optus Stadium, round two, 2023.

This exact time last year, the Eagles managed a 19-point win over the Giants in front of 45,000 fans. The Eagles broke the game open with an incredible eight-goal second term, holding off a late onslaught from GWS to secure the four points. West Coast were brave with their ball movement and worked hard as a unit, with every individual contributing to the end result. Tim Kelly starred with 32 disposals and a goal, while Jake Waterman slotted four through the big sticks.

What it means for the Eagles:

West Coast showed promising signs in round one, keeping pace with Port early and bringing spirit to the contest, but were overrun as the game played out. The Eagles will be looking to bounce back this weekend against the Giants and record their first win of the season in front of their home fans at Optus Stadium. This is the 16th meeting between the Eagles and GWS, with West Coast holding a 10-5 win-loss record. With young recruit Harley Reid, and emerging ruck Harry Barnett recalled to the squad, West Coast will continue to welcome and utilise the boost of youth and energy.

The stat:

Elliot Yeo averages 25.2 disposals across 10 career games against the Giants, his most against any opponent.

The match-up:

This game will feature a number of exciting matchups to keep an eye out for. Reuben Ginbey will likely get the task of Tom Green, two up and coming midfielders going head-to-head around the ground. West Coast defenders Tom Cole or Brady Hough will likely have the tough ask of keeping GWS captain Toby Greene at bay, while the Tom Barrass and Jesse Hogan matchup will definitely be one to watch.

It’s a big week for:

West Coast’s forward line. In the absence of the 2023 Eagles’ leading goal kicker Oscar Allen (knee), West Coast’s forwards are going to have a tougher task on their hands inside 50. Jack Petruccelle (three goals) and Jake Waterman (two) were pivotal for the Eagles remaining competitive in round one and will hopefully carry their goal-kicking form forward to this weekend.

Big call:

Harley Reid will kick multiple goals in his first home game at Optus Stadium.
