This partnership brings together a shared commitment to community and culture, coming at a significant moment for the Waalitj Foundation as they celebrate their 20th anniversary.
Together, the two organisations are dedicated to empowering First Nations people and creating meaningful change through sport, education, employment and business.
This purpose-led partnership will help to support the pathway of future First Nations players into the AFLW, support and collaborate with the Deadly Sista Girlz program, and grow brand awareness for the Waalitj Foundation. The logo will be displayed on the AFLW guernseys along with the training kit and media back drop.
“We are thrilled our AFLW program will partner with the Waalitj Foundation in their milestone 20th year supporting the community and First Nations people,” West Coast Eagles CEO Don Pyke said.
“Their legacy of empowerment aligns with our values, and we’re excited to work together to inspire the next generation of First Nations AFLW players.”
The partnership will include cultural awareness initiatives, player involvement in community programs and events throughout the AFLW season that highlight the voices and stories of First Nations women.
Together, we celebrate 20 years of impact and the beginning of a powerful new chapter for community, culture and the future of women’s football.
“As we proudly celebrate 20 years of service to our communities, Waalitj Foundation is honoured to announce our partnership with the West Coast Eagles AFLW team,” said Josie Janz-Dawson, Waalitj Foundation General Manager – Education Programs.
“This collaboration marks a significant milestone in our ongoing commitment to supporting Aboriginal girls and women through culturally safe, community-led pathways in sport.
“We know that many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander girls across our communities are passionate about football.
“Through this partnership, we aim to strengthen the development pathways that will allow them to be identified, supported, and retained as long-term athletes in the AFLW system.
“We believe in the power of sport to inspire, connect and uplift.
“Our partnership with the West Coast Eagles AFLW team is not just about visibility, it’s about creating real opportunities for young women to thrive, both on and off the field.
“Together, we are working to ensure that the next generation of athletes are not only seen but celebrated.
“We look forward to continuing this journey, grounded in culture, connection and community, and empowering First Nations Peoples to fly.”
