The WAFL Eagles overcame South Fremantle by 19 points on Sunday, securing a 15.12 (102) to 11.17 (83) triumph.

“As a group, I thought we played our best team football of the season in the first half,” coach Kyal Horlsey said.

“We challenged South's defence whenever we had possession and were able to restrict their ball movement when they had the ball.

“It was pleasing to see that work rewarded on the scoreboard, allowing us to head into half-time with a handy lead.

“In the second half, South changed the way they moved the ball and challenged us in different ways, which gave them the ascendancy for large periods of the game.

“To our group's credit, we adapted to those changes, absorbed the pressure and were able to hold off their challenges. In the end, it was one of the best wins we've had during my time in the program.”

Fin Macrae

Fin continued his strong form on the inside and was dominant in all phases of the game. He stood up in the big moments when the team needed him most and had a significant influence on the result.

Tom Gross

Another impressive performance from Tom. His offensive impact was clear for all to see, finishing with 2.2 and 11 score involvements. What stood out most, however, was his defensive intent and transition work. He created multiple turnovers and repeatedly got back deep in defence to support his teammates.

Josh Burke

Josh’s fierce will to win was evident all game. He produced several crucial spoils at moments when South looked certain to score and arguably delivered the play of the year with a goal-saving tackle after an 80-metre sprint when a South goal appeared inevitable.

Lucca Grego

Lucca had a big influence on the game and provided plenty of drive from the back half. His defensive work and attention to detail were highlights throughout the day.

Josh Lindsay

Josh returned to his damaging best with ball in hand. He continually opened the game up for us offensively and finished with nine score involvements, an outstanding return for a half-back. He also did an excellent job nullifying his direct opponent.

Elijah Hewett

Elijah led the group superbly and played a genuine captain's game. He did the tough things in the contest, communicated exceptionally well and finished with two goals. His second came at a crucial moment under immense pressure and helped seal the win.

Fred Rodriguez

Fred split his time between half-back and the wing. The intensity he played with stood out, particularly his willingness to sprint back to support teammates in defence and then work hard to open the game up in attack.

Clay Hall

Clay worked tirelessly across all four quarters. His transition running in all phases stood out, while his ability to use his power and take ground helped us pierce souths defence.

Malakai Champion

Malakai returned from injury and looked as though he hadn't missed a beat. He was dangerous forward of the ball all day and seemed to either score or create a scoring opportunity every time he got involved.

Tyrell Dewar

Tyrell was a handful for the opposition all game and looked capable of breaking the game open on multiple occasions.

Tylah Williams

Tylah’s electric speed was on full display. Offensively, he helped us link up and score, while defensively he caused havoc through pressure and created multiple turnovers.

Harry Barnett

In an undersized forward line, Harry carried a significant load. His ability to compete, either winning or halving contests, made life much easier for our small forwards at ground level. When he got the ball in his hands, good things happened, finishing with 100% disposal efficiency.

Jake Miles-Wrency

Jake competed strongly behind the ball and had to match up on a variety of opponents, both tall and small. He consistently found a way to impact contests, took several important intercept marks and continues to grow week by week.

Matt Owies

Matt continued his strong run of form and was a constant threat inside forward 50, finishing with two goals. Most impressive was his ability to compete despite being undersized. With a lack of tall forwards available, he consistently found a way to bring the ball to ground and then go to work at ground level.
