West Coast Eagles star midfielder Bella Lewis is pushing to be available after an ankle injury suffered early in the pre-season.
“Bella sustained an ankle injury early in the pre-season,” High Performance Manager Sam Batterton said.
“She’s been in a solid rehab program and has trained fully for the past week, with the goal of being available for round one.”
Forward Mikayla Western will be monitored closely this week after experiencing hamstring awareness in last week’s practice match.
“Mikayla experienced some hamstring awareness in the first quarter of our practice match, and we took a precautionary approach,” Batterton said.
“She’ll be a test for Thursday night, and we will monitor closely.”
Key defender Charlotte Riggs is on the comeback trail from a fractured wrist, while experienced Eagle Belinda Smith is also spending time on the sidelines.
“Charlotte will undergo a surgical review this week to confirm her return to training, and if cleared, could be available as early as round two,” Batterton said.
“Belinda remains around three-to-four weeks away as she recovers from a quad injury but has returned to running and will look to intergrate into skills training next week.”
In unfortunate news, Annabel Johnson has sustained a meniscus injury after only recently returning from ACL rehabilitation that saw her sidelined for the 2024 season.
“Annabel will require a minor procedure on her right knee after being pulled from the practice match with an injury to the same knee she had surgery on last year,” Batterton said.
“Scans cleared her of any ACL damage but revealed a meniscus injury which will be addressed.”
In other news, defender Lucy Boyd is looking to get back on the track after suffering an ankle injury.
“Lucy will return to running at the back end of this week as she progresses through her rehab,” Batterton said.
“She is expected to miss the opening few weeks of the season.”
