The WAFL Eagles fell painstakingly short in the dying minutes of the game, going down 11.7 (73) to 11.12 (78) against Swan Districts.
Senior Coach Kyal Horsley said it was a thrilling game against a team they had not yet beaten in their short WAFL history.
“Momentum swung all night, and with 15 minutes to go, trailing by 17-points, our group dug deep.” Horsley said.
“Led by some individual brilliance from Harry Barnett, who kicked three clutch goals, we hit the front late in the final quarter.
“Unfortunately, Swans had the final say, going coast-to-coast and slotting the winner with 20 seconds left.
“As a coach, I couldn’t be prouder of the resilience, intent, and fight our group showed, not just in this game, but across the final stretch of the season and I’m excited to see how the group attacks our final game of the year.”
Top Performers
Jack Williams
Jack was relentless across all phases of the game, dominating the aerial contests with 13 marks. He was a constant threat up forward, kicking three goals and unselfishly passing off a few scoring opportunities. With straighter kicking, it could’ve been a game for the ages.
Thomas Edwards-Baldwin
We challenged the group on their intent, and Thomas led the way in that area. His pressure, speed, and intensity were outstanding, setting the tone for the team from the first bounce to the final siren.
Callum Jamieson
Like Jack, Callum was a dominant aerial presence in the back half. He led the game in intercept marks and spoils while consistently defending his direct opponent. He provided crucial support to teammates and shut down multiple attacks from the Swans.
AFL Listed Players
Coen Livingstone
Coen led the ruck battle in a combative duel with Nathan Blakely in the middle. He took the fight to his opponent and impacted the scoreboard when pushing forward.
Harry Barnett
Harry split his time between forward and ruck, competing hard throughout. He took over in the final 15 minutes, kicking three clutch goals, including two from big marks and one from a ruck free kick outside 50. A great reward for his hard work.
Jack Petruccelle
Jack had a major impact with his explosiveness and defensive pressure. His leadership and ability to rise above the level were crucial in driving the team forward.
Harvey Johnston
Harvey put together a strong four-quarter performance, impacting across all areas of the ground. He worked tirelessly in defence and linked up well in offence.
Malakai Champion
While Malakai’s stats didn’t reflect it, his speed and pressure created multiple turnovers. He consistently found the right positions, but the dominance of the key posts restricted his numbers.
Lucca Grego
Lucca delivered a well-balanced game. His defensive contests and ball use set up numerous forward entries.
Tyrell Dewar
Tyrell looked a class above with ball in hand. He used his speed both ways, breaking lines offensively and supporting the back six defensively.
Loch Rawlinson
A tireless game from Loch who supported the defence line and sprinted the length of the field to neutralise the Swan Districts’ spare. A selfless performance.
