Waalitj Marawar AFLW coach Daisy Pearce says her side will take plenty of confidence into Sunday’s home clash against Yartapuulti (Port Adelaide) following a stirring come-from-behind win over Euro-Yroke (St Kilda) last weekend.

Waalitj stormed home with five final-quarter goals to secure their second victory of the season, a performance Pearce described as a reflection of the group’s growing maturity.

“We take a lot of belief out of it,” Pearce said.

“The start of our game wasn’t executed as well as we’d like, but the players’ effort meant we stayed in the contest and could problem solve on the run.

“To finish the way we did shows what we’re capable of and it’s a game we’ll refer back to moving forward.”

The scoring burst was especially pleasing for Pearce, who said her team had been working hard to turn defensive pressure into scoreboard reward.

“It just showed that when we pull it together off the back of our fundamentals and knowing how each other play, we can score quickly,” Pearce said.

One player who continues to capture the attention of the competition is Ella Roberts, and while Pearce welcomed the hype, she said Roberts’ hunger to improve will define her rise.

“Ella is competitive and wants to be great at her craft,” Pearce said.

“As long as her belief is matched by wanting to keep learning and improving, she’ll continue to rise to any label people give her.”

First-year forward Kayla Dalgleish also fronted the media and spoke about her whirlwind start to life in the AFLW after kicking multiple goals in her past two matches.

“It’s been insane,” Dalgleish said.

“I always thought I would just miss out (on getting drafted), so to get the call from Daisy was incredible.

“The girls have been amazing in getting around me, and kicking a couple of goals has been awesome.”

Dalgleish embraced the chance to spend extra time with teammates during the team’s Melbourne hub between rounds two and three.

“It’s such a privilege because not many teams get that opportunity,” she said.

“We built a lot of culture and got to know each other on another level, which was really special.”

Waalitj Marawar will be eager to carry their round three momentum into their return to Mineral Resources Park this weekend.

“To get back home in front of our fans is really exciting,” Pearce said.

“It makes a big difference when you’ve got that support behind you, and I know it means a lot to the players, we can’t wait to see everyone down there.”

Bouncedown for Sunday’s clash with Yartapuulti is 3:05pm WST and it will be broadcast live on 7mate, Fox Sports and Kayo.
