Promising young defender Georgie Cleaver has committed her future to West Coast, signing a two-year contract extension that will see her remain in blue and gold until the end of the 2027 AFLW season.

The 20-year-old has quickly established herself as a key part of the Eagles’ future since arriving at the club, impressing with her athleticism, versatility and competitive edge.

“Signing a contract extension was a no-brainer. Not only are the Eagles the team I grew up following, this team is on the brink of something special,” Cleaver said.

“Being coached by Daisy (Pearce) is an amazing opportunity, and I’m thrilled to be on board.”

Cleaver’s development across her first seasons has her firmly positioned as one of the most exciting young tall prospects in the competition.

A standout junior, she represented Western Australia at underage level and has continued her improvement after choosing to pursue football over a promising netball career.

In 18 matches, Cleaver has already showcased her ability to influence games and AFLW List Manager Jordan Loxley was delighted to secure her commitment as the team builds towards sustained success.

“We are thrilled to extend Georgie for a further two years,” Loxley said.

“A talented dual-sport athlete, this is the first season Georgie has been able to fully focus on her football, and the growth we’ve seen has been significant.

“She is a very athletic key defender whose ability to match up on a range of opponents, intercept, and create on turnover is really pleasing.

“Georgie is a versatile player, and we see her as an integral part of our squad going forward.”
