Wins over Subiaco and Perth on Sunday saw the Eagles extend their perfect start to the season with five-straight wins, perching them atop the WA Wheelchair Football League ladder for the first time this year.

The Eagles started strongly in the first match against Subiaco, with captain Ben Green scoring an impressive five goals in the opening term to assert his dominance on the contest and put the quarter-time scoreline at a commanding seven goals to none.

Subiaco responded admirably in the second quarter to cut the margin back, as their defensive intensity lifted the Eagles were forced into errors and ultimately held goalless for the term.

The squad regrouped after half-time as composed play and accurate finishing saw them reassert control, before the Eagles’ class and depth proved too strong for a spirited Subiaco outfit as they ran out 49-point victors.

In a rematch of last year’s WAWFL Grand Final, the Perth Demons burst out the blocks in the opening term of game two showing early intent and energy to give them the ascendancy with an eight-point lead into quarter time.

The second quarter proved to be a tight and physical battle as the Eagles began to reassert control of possession, but it was inaccuracy in front of goal that cost them the chance to capitalise keeping the lead in Perth’s hands at the main break.

West Coast took full control of the contest in the third term with Paul Whitehurst spearheading the forward line, shaking off the Eagles’ early scoring struggles to pile the pressure on the Demons.

From then on it was a commanding display to all but seal the match, with eight goals to one in the second half giving the reigning premiers the 43-point victory over their arch-rivals.
