West Coast Eagles defender Lucy Boyd will make her AFLW debut on Friday night against Geelong at Sullivan Logistics Stadium.
Boyd landed at the Eagles with pick 53 in the 2024 AFLW Draft, and is known for her versatility, strong marking game and football smarts.
At 172cm tall, the South Australian can play as an intercept defender, or be swung forward to provide an aerial presence.
After overcoming an ankle injury, Boyd has worked her way into the West Coast lineup and can’t wait to suit up alongside her teammates.
“It feels like a long time coming but I’m just stoked and ready to run out with the girls on game day,” Boyd said.
“I found out while the media team were doing a TikTok, and Daisy broke the news during the filming of the TikTok which was cool.
“Mum was my first call, and the whole family will come over for the game, mum, grandma, siblings, whoever can make it over by Friday.”
The 19-year-old praised her backline teammates for their guidance since her arrival at the club.
“Everyone has been great, but the likes of Charlie (Thomas) and ‘Swanny’ (Emma Swanson) in the backline have been really helpful,” Boyd said.
“Just being able to learn off them and watch how they go about it has been good.”
West Coast will take on Geelong under Friday night lights, celebrating Pride Round at Sullivan Logistics Stadium, bouncedown from 6:15pm.
