West Coast has strengthened its midfield stocks with the addition of three experienced players - Deven Robertson, Finlay Macrae and Harry Schoenberg.
Signed on the opening day of the Supplemental Selection Period, the trio joined the full squad for their first training session on Monday as pre-season ramps up.
Robertson, 24, returns home to Western Australia after five seasons with Brisbane and 47 games where he played in a Grand Final and built a reputation for his competitive edge and professionalism.
A hard-running midfielder, he broke into the Lions’ side in 2023 and seized his opportunity, playing 13 home-and-away games and all three finals.
Head of List Management and Recruiting Matt Clarke said the club was thrilled to secure Robertson.
“Dev is a high-quality individual who comes from a highly successful program,” Clarke said.
“We’re looking forward to him showcasing his ball-winning ability, hardness and competitive traits on-field, as well as his work ethic and standards off-field.
“We feel Dev is a great fit for our midfield and will complement the emerging players we’ve added through the draft.”
Joining him is Finlay Macrae, a highly regarded midfield prospect with strong football pedigree who played 21 games after being drafted by Collingwood at pick 19 in the 2020 National Draft.
Renowned for his clean ball use and composure under pressure, Macrae’s versatility allows him to play wing, midfield or high forward, and the 23-year-old’s elite running capacity makes him a genuine transition player.
Clarke said Macrae’s professionalism and adaptability will be a major asset.
“Fin has consistently performed at a high level in the state league and has always been right in the mix for senior opportunities,” Clarke said.
“He’s a really good athlete and a strong transition runner. A great person and a genuine pro who will lift the standards of the group.”
Schoenberg was selected by Adelaide Crows as pick 24 in the 2019 draft after earning South Australia’s MVP award and All-Australian honours at the AFL Under 18 Championships.
The 24-year-old is a strong, hard-working inside midfielder who thrives on the contest and has 62 games of AFL experience.
“Harry has great footy IQ and is a really smart player with good ball use by foot,” Clarke said.
“Similar to Fin, he’s been in and out of the side, but his state league form has been outstanding.
“Both Harry and Fin are in the perfect age demographic for us and bring plenty of experience.”
“Having these three experienced players who are all hungry for opportunity at the highest level, will continue lifting the standards of the group and accelerate the development of the younger players and draftees.”
With this week’s draftee additions – Willem Duursma, Cooper Duff-Tytler, Josh Lindsay, Sam Allen, Tylah Williams and Fred Rodriguez, together with Brandon Starcevich and Tylar Young from the Trade Period, the Eagles have welcomed 11 new players to the club this off-season.
