High Performance Manager Phil Merriman has provided an update on West Coast’s playing squad following the resumption of pre-season training.

Experienced defender Tom Cole ran laps at training on Monday as he manages a finger tendon injury and is set to reintegrate into skills training soon.

“Tom’s injury requires avoiding any contact drills for now,” Merriman said.

“We’re hopeful he can start some skill drills next week before gradually reintegrating back into the full program and in the meantime will continue with his running.”

Developing ruck Harry Barnett is tracking well following his PCL injury and progressing towards full training.

“Harry is making good progress and blending into the footy program,” Merriman said.

“We should see him in the main group in early February.”

Ruck-forward Bailey Williams is building his training volume following his groin injury while small forward Noah Long had his training loads managed on Monday.

Sam Allen continues to make progress in his recovery from an ACL setback, while fellow draftee Fred Rodriguez is working through a stress injury in his foot.

“Sam has started his change-of-direction block,” Merriman said.

“He’ll build that and then move into low-level football drills over the next two weeks. He’s still around four months away from full training.

“Fred will remain non-weight bearing for two weeks and we’ll gradually reload him over the following month.”

Jack Hutchinson is set to begin the next phase of his rehabilitation following ankle surgery in December.

“Jack is set to come out of the boot as part of his next recovery phase,” Merriman said.

“He will start a strengthening program for his lower leg along with a block of cross-training.”
