Star West Coast Eagles spearhead Jake Waterman has earned selection for Western Australia in the 2026 AAMI AFL Origin clash against Victoria on February 14.

The All-Australian forward has been rewarded following his outstanding 2024 campaign, when he kicked 53 goals, and strong form in 2025 before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury in round 11.

Waterman will follow in his dual premiership-winning father Chris’ footsteps by donning the black and gold guernsey alongside Eagles teammate Liam Baker.

West Coast recruit Brandon Starcevich was also selected for WA but has been withdrawn given he was not available to play the required amount of game time.

Waterman, 27, said the opportunity carries deep personal significance.

“It’s an absolute honour to be picked to wear the Black Swan alongside a team of West Australians I admire immensely,” Waterman said.

“I have been fortunate enough to represent WA many times throughout my junior days, so to be able to put the iconic black and gold jumper on again means the world to my family and I.

“Very proud of my teammates Liam Baker and Brandon Starcevich, as well as former teammate Tom Barrass for also being selected.

“Big thanks to the selectors for giving me the opportunity.”

Waterman said he is excited to reconnect with familiar faces and embrace the return of Origin rivalry.

“I can’t wait to get together with the crew, reunite with some old teammates, and give our all against the Big V,” he said.

The AAMI AFL Origin game will begin at 4:40pm WST on Saturday, February 14 at Optus Stadium, with the sold out match broadcast on Channel 7 and Fox, and streamed via 7Plus and Kayo.
