Missed opportunities and a lack of forward connection came back to haunt West Coast in a 56-point Western Derby defeat on Sunday.

Despite winning inside 50s (51-50) and contested possessions (plus-five), the Eagles couldn't match Fremantle's efficiency and damage on turnover.

Dockers forward Jye Amiss capitalised in their fifth straight win, taking nine marks inside 50 in a powerful performance as Freo asserted itself against the Eagles to win 14.13 (97) to 5.11 (41).

Defender Jordan Clark won his first Glendinning-Allan Medal as best afield in a terrific performance, shining in his 100th consecutive game for the Dockers to finish with 27 disposals and 11 marks.

Reuben Ginbey produced a stellar performance for the Eagles battling out of his weight division, keeping Josh Treacy to one goal and three marks in a best afield display for West Coast.

Tom McCarthy (28 disposals) also fought against the run of play across half-back, while Elliot Yeo (21, one goal) had an impact in his return game and Bailey Williams battled strongly against the Dockers' ruck duo.

Fremantle has now won nine of the past 10 Derbies, including four in a row, with the Dockers feasting on West Coast's turnovers on Sunday and slicing through the middle of the ground with their rapid and clean ball-movement.

Clark was so often the ignitor off half-back, intercepting the ball and then kick-starting attacking chains, with the All-Australian racking up 622m gained as he continues a strong season.

Murphy Reid was a maestro in the midfield, with his creativity again on show with 26 disposals and a team-high four score assists as the Dockers managed the return of Hayden Young (23 and eight inside 50s) to a star-studded midfield.

Mason Cox was quiet in his club debut as the No.2 ruckman but worked hard all day to bring the ball to ground in contests after a concussion setback to Sean Darcy opened an opportunity for the Texan.

West Coast looked to make a run early in the second quarter and took a brief lead in an otherwise unspectacular Derby, with co-captain Liam Baker (two goals) and half-back McCarthy (five rebounds) working hard.

Tagging was a theme of the build-up to Derby 62, with West Coast putting plans in place to support Harley Reid and Fremantle preparing for Caleb Serong to cop some attention.

Neither team started with a clear tag, however, with Andrew Brayshaw monitoring Reid at stoppages and returning Eagle Elliot Yeo starting on Serong as Freo jumped into the game with the first two goals.

West Coast held up well in the contested side of the game and got the contest on its terms for periods, but the Eagles sprayed their chances and entered the first break with 0.6 and trailing by 10 points.

Yeo got his team rolling to start the second term, snapping a terrific goal after some repeat entries before young defender Josh Lindsay kicked his first career goal to give the Eagles a three-point lead.

Fremantle's biggest asset against West Coast was its trio of tall forwards and the team made an effort to target them with long entries as the second quarter progressed, with Amiss outworking Sandy Brock for a pair of goals.

Cox had his first chance when he marked inside 50 and was jeered by the Eagles crowd, missing his set shot as the Dockers headed to the main break with a 22-point lead.

The Eagles couldn't make any ground in the second half, dropping to a 2-4 win-loss record, ahead of a clash with St Kilda next Sunday at Marvel Stadium.
