West Coast Eagles fans are encouraged to get to Domain Stadium early on Saturday to watch the club’s Next Generation Academy talents play in their second curtain raiser match of 2017.

More than 50 of Western Australia’s most talented indigenous and multicultural talents will take to the field in an all-Eagles affair from 3.15pm.

West Coast game development manager Adam Selwood said the contest would put the academy’s under-14 talent on show for everyone to see.

“Part of what we are trying to build is a younger cohort or group of players coming through that, in time and if they fit the draft criteria, will be potential recruits for us,” Selwood said.

“There will be a mixture of indigenous players, multicultural talents and non-indigenous players. It’s a good opportunity to see the talent that is on display.”

The match will feature several players who recently played in the Next Generation Academy’s match against Wesley College’s first-string Year 9 side.

Selwood said the group learned a lot from that contest and were eager to demonstrate how far they had come since that encounter this Saturday.

“It is exciting that the Next Generation Academy is getting traction and continuing to grow,” he said.

“More kids are looking to get involved and we have been really pleased with what we have seen to date.

“Spectators will be able to cheer for any West Coast team. There’ll be a Naitanui blue and white team.

“The kids love pulling on the West Coast colours. It makes them feel special and it could give everyone a look at what they might look like in the near future.”

Fans hoping to catch a glimpse of the Next Generation Academy talents can enter Domain Stadium through Gates eight and 19 from 3.05pm.

Spectators require a ticket to the West Coast Eagles v Melbourne fixture to gain entry to the ground.
