West Coast has secured one of its brightest emerging stars, with key forward Lauren Wakfer signing a four-year contract extension that will keep her at the Eagles until at least the end of the 2030 season.
A key pillar of the club’s future, Wakfer has enjoyed a rapid rise since making her AFLW debut in round one, 2023.
The 22-year-old has developed into a leader at West Coast across her 34-game career and is helping to drive the team forward after a breakthrough finals appearance last season.
“I’m keen to sign on because I can feel a really strong build toward success as a team and I’m excited to play a role in that,” Wakfer said.
“I’ve built such strong connections with the girls and staff in this program, and I’m proud to be part of it for years to come.
“I can’t wait to see how far we can go in the future and I’m excited to stick around for that.”
Equally capable in the ruck and forward of the ball, Wakfer combines her ability to win clearances and possessions at stoppages with strong aerial presence, clean ball use and an impressive vertical leap.
She was a Rising Star nominee in 2023, and her game reached new heights last year as she spent more time as a key forward, showcasing significant growth in her marking and aerial craft while becoming a dangerous target inside 50.
The breakout campaign was recognised with a third-place finish in West Coast's AFLW Club Champion award and elevation into the leadership group ahead of this season.
AFLW List and Recruiting Manager Jordan Loxley said securing Wakfer's signature for the long term was a major boost for the club.
"We're thrilled to extend Lauren's contract through to the end of 2030," Loxley said.
"As a young key forward, we've seen significant growth in her game over the past few seasons, culminating in a top three finish in our Club Champion in 2025.
"Lauren is an ultra-competitive player who has a unique ability to impact both in the air and at ground level.
"We've also seen huge growth in her leadership, which has been recognised through her inclusion in our leadership group.
"Lauren is an important part of our football club, both on and off the field, and we're very pleased to secure her for the long term."
