The West Coast Eagles have expanded Eagles Active with a new suite of digital programs designed to accelerate athlete development, strengthen coach capability and support school engagement at scale.

Building on the platform’s growing role across Western Australia, this latest release further establishes Eagles Active as a central hub connecting athletes, coaches, teachers and communities through high-quality, accessible learning experiences aligned to real performance environments.

Scaling Coach Development Through Elite Environments

For the first time in Australian sport, Eagles Active will deliver a professional learning experience for coaches, providing direct access to the expertise and standards of a professional sporting organisation.

Led by Eagles Academy coach Steve Malaxos, Delivering Effective Training Sessions offers an inside look at how top-level coaches plan and deliver training. The course takes users inside an Eagles Academy session, highlighting how planning, structure and coaching behaviours combine to create high-performance environments.

The course explores:

  • Structured session planning processes
  • The critical role of the assistant coach
  • Session flow and purposeful coaching interventions
  • Translating high-performance coaching practice into community settings

With immersive video content, workbooks and Academy planning resources, the course equips coaches with practical tools they can immediately apply in their own environments.

Connecting Community to Club Expertise

Richard O’Connell, Executive General Manager - Community & Game Development at the West Coast Eagles, said the release strengthens the club’s ability to connect meaningfully with its community:

“This new content release provides more opportunities to connect with our community, giving players, coaches, teachers and students access to high-quality resources to enhance their practice and develop a closer connection to the Eagles.

We’re especially excited to welcome coaches into Eagles Active, whilst continuing to build out content for teachers and athletes.”

Extending Athlete Development Beyond Training

The Skill Up series for junior athletes has expanded with the addition of a Tackling program, led by Head of Game Development and Participation Michael Prior.

Focused on safe, effective technique, the program breaks down academy-level drills into structured learning experiences that athletes can engage with outside of training, while also supporting coaches in session delivery.

The Tackling program sits alongside existing Skill Up modules covering kicking, handball and marking — creating a more complete development pathway for academy athletes and junior footballers across Western Australia.

Bringing Sportsmanship into the Classroom

A new Sportsmanship Series introduces a dedicated category of learning for primary school teachers and students.

The program includes a short professional learning course for teachers, supported by student-facing videos and classroom resources centred on the theme of “how to be a good sport”.

Drawing on the experiences and standards of Eagles players, the series provides a practical, age-appropriate toolkit for classroom delivery.

A Platform Built for Scalable Impact

Eagles Active continues to evolve as a platform designed to extend the club’s reach across participation, development and community engagement.

Developed in partnership with Playbk Sports, the platform brings together athlete, coach and school programs into one connected ecosystem — enabling consistent delivery, broader reach and more meaningful engagement across the state.

Further releases are planned in the coming weeks, including new resources for athletes and teachers, with the Day in the Life series and mindfulness programs nearing completion.

Eagles Active is available now, with new programs ready for athletes, coaches and teachers to explore.
