Key defender Rhett Bazzo will remain a West Coast Eagle until at least the end of 2029 after signing a three-year contract extension.

An important part of the Club’s future, Bazzo has committed to an emerging group building towards sustained success.

“It feels good. Obviously my fifth year now so great to repay my faith back to the Club. Obviously, they stood by me through some pretty difficult times,” Bazzo said.

“It’s awesome just to play some good footy finally and repay them back and it’s good to sign on for another few years.”

Called into the team in round 10 this season, Bazzo has taken on some tough assignments in the absences of key pillars Reuben Ginbey and Harry Edwards.

The 195cm Swan Districts product has anchored the backline in 13-straight games, showcasing his defensive craft and aerial prowess.

“Continuity has been massive for me. Obviously, the last few years have been a few injury-interrupted pre-seasons,” Bazzo said.

“It’s good just to have an injury-free year, train hard and get good reps out there.

“Hopefully I’ve played a few good games of footy for this Club.”

Drafted via pick 37 in 2021, Bazzo has played 41 career matches and is excited about the future as part of the AFL’s youngest squad.

“A lot of my good mates are here inside the four walls,” Bazzo said.

“It’s been another fun year, albeit not too many results going our way but we’re building, we’re growing towards something special in the future.

“There’s bright times ahead and I want to be here for that, so that’s obviously one of the main reasons why I signed.”

Head of List Management and Recruiting, Matt Clarke, praised Bazzo for his dedication to improving his craft amid a challenging start to his career.

“Rhett's had periods where things haven't come easily, but he's remained committed, continued to improve and never lost sight of what was required to establish himself at AFL level,” Clarke said.

“This contract isn't based on a handful of games. It's recognition of the consistent work he's done behind the scenes, the growth he's shown over a number of years and the level he's been able to produce when given his opportunity.

“We think he's earned this extension, and we're excited about what comes next.”
