West Coast Eagles defender Zoe Wakfer will miss this weekend’s clash with Essendon due to concussion, after sustaining a head knock in the final term of Sunday’s win over St Kilda.
“Zoe sustained a concussion in the fourth quarter on the weekend and has entered protocols,” High Performance Manager Sam Batterton said.
“She will be unavailable for the upcoming game against Essendon this weekend as she works through those protocols.”
First-year midfielder Mia Russo is being monitored following an ankle injury on Sunday.
“Mia sustained a low-grade ankle sprain in the back end of the game,” Batterton said.
“This will be assessed this week, but we expect her to be available for selection this weekend.”
Talented youngster Courtney Rowley has made a successful return to play following and ACL injury last year, competing in a scrimmage on the weekend and ticking off the final markers in her rehabilitation program.
“Courtney Rowley made her return on the weekend through scrimmage,” Batterton said.
“She got through unscathed and will be available for selection this weekend.”
Abby Bushby sustained an adductor strain in the Eagles’ round five game against Brisbane and will be a test for Friday, while Lily Paterson is advancing though her hip injury program.
“Abby has progressed well though an adductor strain and will train this week and will be test for Friday’s game.
“Lily’s rehab for her hip stress injury has gone well over the last few weeks.
“She’s reintegrated into training and will look to get some scrimmage minutes this weekend as she completes her return to play.”
Liz McGrath continues to work through a hamstring injury, with a return-to-play time frame still to be confirmed.
“Liz’s progress with a hamstring injury has been a bit slower that first expected,” Batterton said.
“We’re unsure of a timeline at this stage as we continue to assess her progress, but we don’t expect it to be long-term.”
