Western Australia will host South Australia in the second AFL Origin clash at Optus Stadium in February – almost 30 years after the Sandgropers and Croweaters last met.
The Origin contest will be staged on Saturday, February 27 at 4.40pm AWST – nearly two weeks later than this year’s clash with Victoria in front of a sellout crowd.
West Coast stars Jake Waterman and Liam Baker represented the State in Origin’s return, while new recruit Trent Rivers also played for WA.
The WA v SA clash will mark 50 years since the State of Origin began with Victoria travelling to Subiaco Oval in 1977. It will also mark the 150th anniversary of the SANFL.
“Optus Stadium provided an incredible stage for AFL Origin’s return earlier this year and we look forward to continuing to build on that momentum as we prepare for a meeting of two proud football states in Perth,” AFL CEO Andrew Dillon said.
“We know football fans around the country will embrace the opportunity to celebrate the history, rivalry and unique spectacle that is AFL Origin.”
AFL Origin will be broadcast on Seven Network and Foxtel, as well as 7plus, Kayo and WatchAFL streaming platforms.
Tickets will go on sale for Club members at 9am AWST on Wednesday, December 2 and to the general public 24 hours later.
