West Coast Eagles ruck Liz McGrath has announced her retirement from AFLW football, bringing the curtain down on a journey that spanned three clubs at the elite level.

McGrath arrived at the Eagles ahead of the 2025 season after West Coast secured the experienced ruck in a trade deal with North Melbourne.

The 184cm ruck made her AFLW debut and played three games with Port Adelaide in 2022 and went on to play eight games in blue and gold.

Ankle and hamstring injuries interrupted her time at West Coast, but McGrath remained a valued contributor during a significant period in the AFLW program, including last season’s historic first finals campaign.

“To everyone at the club I want to say thank you. To the pioneers of our game thank you for the opportunities you created that let me be part of your world,” McGrath said.

“To those that brought me here thank you for the third chance, the chance to play footy and become the athlete I thought I maybe could be.

“And to everyone in this program thank you for letting me end my career loving football. The past two years in this program have reminded me of how much fun the challenge of what we do can be.”

Head of Women's Football Michelle Cowan said McGrath's influence at the Club extended far beyond her on-field contribution.

"While her time with our club has only been two seasons, the legacy she leaves is significant," Cowan said.

"Her passion and knowledge around diversity and inclusion, combined with the genuine care she shows for every person in our environment, has made our club better.

"She has challenged us to think differently and leaves an impact that will extend well beyond her time in our colours.

"Thank you Liz for making us better and we wish her all the very best for the next adventure in life."
