In a high-stakes double-header against the Subiaco Lions and Swan Districts, the Eagles took to the court wearing orange in support of 16 Days in WA and the fight against domestic violence.

Despite claiming a 44-point victory over the Lions earlier this season, the Eagles were outclassed in their first game after a hard fought 46-point loss.

The Eagles started strong with Vice Captain Levi Bennett scoring three first quarter goals, keeping the hard fighting Lions to just a nine-point lead.

In spite of his efforts, the Lions took control with seven scoring shots in the second quarter as they extended their lead to 30 points, even with dominant ruck displays from Tristan Thomson and Paul Whitehurst.

Super sub Kris Shannon made an immediate impact in the third quarter, kicking three quick goals to help the Eagles claw back the deficit to just 14 points while the Lions struggled with accuracy.

After being held goalless in the third term, the Lions quickly regrouped in the fourth quarter, stunning the Eagles with a six-goal final quarter to secure the 46-point win.

During the double header break, the East Perth Royals secured a win over Peel Thunder, setting up a must win clash with Swan Districts to hold onto the top spot.

The Eagles had a flying start, with Bennett and Whitehurst combining well to drive the Eagles to a 14-point lead, generating five scoring shots while holding the Swans to just one point.

Swan Districts hit back with two goals in the second quarter but a crucial block from Whitehurst, and Tin Yan Tse’s quick movement forward helped West Coast maintain their 14-point lead.

Our Eagles came alive in an action packed third quarter, converting five of nine scoring opportunities as Bennett and Whitehurst helped stretch the lead to 24 points.

Whitehurst and Jason Kappler combined for three crucial blocks to keep the Swans scoreless in the final quarter.

Paired with a charge on goal from Thompson, the Eagles secured the 44-point win to maintain their top spot.

West Coast take on East Perth and Swan Districts at LeisureFit Melville on Sunday November 1st with the action commencing at 10.30am.
