West Coast coach Adam Simpson is relying on his players to follow their individualised programs so the team can quickly ramp up training together in a intensive block before the AFL season resumes.

The Eagles’ players are limited to kicking a Sherrin and completing fitness programs with just one other person given the current restrictions placed on the community due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“They’ve got remote programs, probably a bit like a pre-Christmas (training) type of feel,” Simpson told Channel Seven.

“The window to get available to play, we’ve got our players back for three or four weeks max before we start playing games would be the general feel we’re getting, but nothing has been locked away at the moment.

“There will be a cut-off (for games to recommence). I’ve got no idea when that would be.

“We’re like everyone else, we’re waiting for some direction from the AFL.

“They’ve got a lot of work to do, a lot of ripples on what happens when we start the ball rolling.

“It’s up to the AFL and we’re ready to play, it’s just trying to get it all up and going.”

With players currently unable to return to the club, West Coast has turned to technology to stay connected and focused during these uncertain times.

“Using all the platforms. We’re learning every day ourselves about how to communicate,” Simpson said.

“It started with phone calls and then texts and now Zoom has kicked in, and the WhatsApp groups.

“Trying to stay as connected and engaged as much as we can through this situation. It's really unique.

“We normally galvanise and become really tight as a group but we’ve got to try and do that with remote access, it’s been quite difficult but we’re finding a way.”

West Coast members and fans are also encouraged to stay connected through social media by tagging #EaglesAtHome in their posts.

Simpson said everyone at the club was grateful for the ongoing backing from the loyal fan base, and empathised with supporters who were missing the footy.

“I think we all are - whether you work in the industry or you’re a member of any club it gets to the weekend and you’re looking for something to watch,” he said.

“We still appreciate all the support our members have given us. I think our membership has grown in the last three weeks, which is fantastic, and our corporate support is still backing us in.

“We’ll all get through it, stick by us, and hopefully we get through it together.”
