The East Coast Eagles have never lost an Eastern Derby since Balmain became the Dockers and this form continued on Saturday.
The Eagles won the game convincingly by 69 points and the margin could have been greater if they had kicked straighter. The Eagles had 39 scoring shots to 15 and when the team learns to kick straight, others better watch out.
The final scoreboard read East Coast 18.21 (129) to Balmain 9.6 (60).
Shane Ryan continued his great run of form with another prominent display and Jack Dimery, in his first year of senior football, continues to get better with each game. Mark Skuse played his best game for the club and Kristian Pearson looks to be heading back to his personal best after his knee reconstruction.
This week the Eagles look forward to taking on another undefeated team in Western Suburbs and everyone should get down to Bruce Purse Reserve on Saturday night at 6.30pm to watch what promises to be a fabulous game.
The Division One team continues to struggle in the early part of the season and after suffering another loss to the other new club in the competition in UTS, the team will have to take stock and for the first time in a long time become the hunter again.
UTS never looked back after leading by five goals to none at quarter time and they proved too big and strong on the small Trumper Park. UTS eventually ran out winners 12.13 (85) to 4.7 (31).
Cory Durie and Josh Shephard continued to the lead the way and have done so for just about every game. The team has met every challenge over the last three years and this is just another hurdle for them to jump over.
A vastly different looking side from last week in Division Two could not quite match it with Balmain. After two good wins it just wasn’t to be on Saturday and Balmain ran out winners 21.10 (136) to 3.5 (23).
Ben Hynes once again was the leading force in the team and Carl Doering gave a four-quarter effort.
The Premier Cup Under 18s team continued with its good form beating Balmain on Friday night. After being close for three quarters, the East Coast took control in the last quarter and kicked eight goals to nothing. They walked away with a 66-point victory and won 16.12 (108) to 6.6 (42).
Jake Pianta and Dean Costello were the two best on the night.
The Challenge Cup Under 18s team could not quite crack it for its first win of the season and unfortunately went down by just four points 10.10 (70) to 9.12 (66). They stormed home in the last quarter kicking four goals to one, but time just beat them in the end.
Next Saturday, May 9 week is Nor-West Day at Bruce Purser Reserve when the Eagles and the Nor-West Jets combine to bring you six games of footy starting from 8.30am in the morning. The only team to not play at home next week is the Challenge Cup U/18’s who travel to Pennant Hills at 8.30am on Saturday morning.
The big clash of the two undefeated teams in Premier Division gets under way at 6.30pm and we look forward to plenty of local support on the night. The Foxtel cameras will be there to televise the match of the round.
