Number one draft pick for the West Coast Eagles Nic Naitanui, took time off from his busy schedule to visit the kids at Nollamara Primary School yesterday.
In a joint initiative by the West Coast Eagles, the Subiaco District and Smarter than Smoking, Naitanui was able to stress the importance of being involved in a sport like football to keep fit and healthy.
Nollamara Primary is one of the most multicultural schools in Perth and this initiative allowed multicultural students to be exposed to Australia's top game.
Naitanui also talked to the kids about his own football experiences with the West Coast Eagles and how he rose to success.
“It’s pretty important, coming from Fiji, to be able to come out to multicultural schools like Nollamara and give these kids inspiration to play football like I did at their age,” said Naitanui.
Nollamara Primary School will then conduct a 20-week football program to encourage the students to continue to learn and play football.
“It’s great to be a role model to multicultural kids and to get that multicultural factor back in the game. It's good to see different cultures playing football and if we can get more by visiting schools like this one, then that would be perfect,” said Naitanui.
The Subiaco district, who initiated the program, handed out footballs and Auskick backpacks to the children at the assembly.
This is one of many school appearances the West Coast Eagles are proud to be involved with to encourage development football programs throughout Western Australia.
