Champion forward Josh Kennedy pulled up well from his first run since tweaking his ankle, and has revealed a “special recipe” treatment from Liam Ryan’s aunty is aiding his recovery.

Kennedy was put through his paces at Mineral Resources Park on Monday, 12 days since he limped from the field against North Melbourne in round 18.

The 33-year-old moved freely through agility exercises and then completed some leading work ahead of another test at main training on Wednesday night.

“I’ve still got to get through tomorrow, but it’s looking positive. I ran for the first time yesterday and did a bit of training,” Kennedy told 6PR.

“It felt pretty good and it’s pulled up this morning pretty good, which was the main thing, and we’ll progress tomorrow.”

Kennedy detailed how a treatment, which includes emu oil, was helping him recuperate.

“I’ve got some stuff from one of Liam’s aunties called binyarn oil that I’ve been using, so chucking that on, but really just ice and compression just trying to get the swelling out,” he said.

“Swelling is a big thing with ankles. Just making sure the swelling is down, so when I did start running yesterday it wouldn’t put any more pressure on it.

“Just been resting it really, so it’s been nice.”

After watching Ryan’s development at Subiaco and then West Coast, Kennedy was especially thrilled last Thursday when the high-flying Eagle was awarded his first All Australian blazer.

Ryan booted 25 goals in 17 games this year, after slotting 30 and 20 in his previous two seasons, while elevating his all-round game to another level.

“Absolutely. It’s been amazing seeing Liam come through,” Kennedy said.

“I played with his old man up north, and I’ve known him as a little kid, so to see him get drafted come through the system and then he’s a premiership player and now he’s an All Australian.

“He’s had a really good year, and it’s just great to see him keep rising, rising and rising. It’s been great.”
