West Coast Eagles utility player Jackson Nelson is among a group of players who have today been informed their time at the club has come to an end.

Nelson, selection 51 in the 2014 draft, played mainly in defence during his 102 games for the club, but also played through the midfield, the most notable performance in his 13 games this season coming in a tagging role on Andrew Brayshaw in the round 22 RAC Derby.

Joining the 26-year-old, who was recruited from the Geelong under-18s, in departing the club are supplementary selection period players Hugh Dixon and Tom Joyce who were called upon during the club’s pre-season injury crisis.

Dixon, a former Fremantle forward played 10 games and Joyce, unfortunately, suffered an ankle injury in training during the lead-up to the season and did not manage to play a game at any level.

Football Manager Gavin Bell thanked the players for the endeavours at the Eagles.

“Jackson, in particular, has made a long and strong contribution to our club,” Bell said. “He has been a popular member of our playing squad for eight seasons, including two Grand Final campaigns.

“Along with Hugh and Tom, who answered an SOS call from the club in the pre-season, we wish each of them every success for next phase of their lives and in football.”
