West Coast has recruited exciting young defender Mackenzie Webb as an Inactive Player Replacement for the injured Krstel Petrevski ahead of the upcoming AFLW season.

The Claremont product has come up through the Tigers’ ranks, being elevated to the senior WAFLW side after just four games with the Rogers Cup squad.

Webb was named as a train-on player for West Coast earlier this year and has recently starred as an over-age player for Western Australia in the AFLW Under 18s National Championships.

Webb’s ability to lockdown opponents is first-class, the 19-year-old impressing with her closing speed and footy smarts and will be a welcome inclusion to West Coast’s backline.

Eagles AFLW List Manager Jordan Loxley said Webb is ready for the opportunity to perform on the AFLW stage.

“Mackenzie has been a very consistent player for Claremont over the last couple of years, but her performances for WA in the State carnival this year really proved to us that she was ready for an opportunity at AFLW level,” Loxley said.

“She played on some of the best forwards in the country at under 18’s level and held her own against them, her ability to defend but also win the ball in the air was something we admired.

“Mackenzie will complement our list nicely, adding further depth in our key defensive stocks, and I have no doubt that she will be able to have an impact at AFLW level.”

The Eagles take on Fremantle Dockers in round one, with the season kicking off on Sunday, September 3 at Fremantle Oval.
