New West Coast Eagles recruit Amy Franklin will make her debut in the blue and gold against Fremantle in the AFLW RAC Derby on Sunday.

Franklin was the sole off-season signing for the Eagles and the key forward will feature in her new colours against her former side Fremantle in round one of the AFLW season.

Eagles coach Michael Prior said the team is excited to see what Franklin will bring on Sunday.

“It’s really exciting for ‘Frankie’, obviously coming from Fremantle, we’ve loved what she’s done since she’s been here,” Prior said.

“She’s a real competitor in our front half and can kick the ball a very long way.

“We look forward to her getting her opportunity on Sunday to show everyone exactly what she can do.”

Franklin, a key target in the Eagles forward line, is a welcome inclusion for the developing squad, and Prior said she will have an instant impact for the Eagles.

“For her size, she can get up higher up the ground and really run and get around the ground really well, she’s good in the air,” Prior said.

“She’s also really good at ground level as well and that’s important as a forward, to not have just one string to your bow, but to be able to play a few different ways, and we think she can do that.

“She can play high, she can play out of the goal square if we wanted to do that as well.”

Fronting up against her former side, Prior said Franklin will be a challenge for the Dockers defenders.

“I think she’ll be excited about playing against her old team,” Prior said.

“Obviously there’s going to be a few nerves, and that happens with anyone who plays against their old team.

“If she goes out there and does what we know she can do with her style of play, it’s really going to challenge the Fremantle defence, so we look forward to that.”

The final 21 will feature a trio of debutants, Franklin joined by Lauren Wakfer and Emily Elkington, the two teenagers pulling on the Eagles uniform for the first time in their AFLW careers.

Experienced West Coast defender Evie Gooch has been named as the emergency, coming back from a season on the sidelines with a wrist injury. Zoe Wakfer and Emma Humphries have also been named as emergencies.

The Eagles will be gunning for their first victory over Fremantle in the sixth AFLW RAC Derby between the crosstown rivals.

Bouncedown for the clash is at 3.05pm. Tickets are available here and the match will be broadcast live on Channel 7, Fox Footy and Kayo.
