Premiership hero Dom Sheed will play his first senior match since July 30 last year after being named on the five-man interchange for Saturday’s RAC Derby at Optus Stadium.

The West Coast Eagles faithful will be hoping he can play a role in the club bringing to an end a five-game winning streak that Fremantle has recently created in the storied rivalry between the two WA clubs.

The last time Sheed played the Eagles beat North Melbourne by five points at Optus Stadium, and his presence will add depth and experience to the midfield group.

The 157-game veteran, who famously slotted the winning goal against Collingwood in the 2018 Grand Final, has been called in to replace developing midfielder Luke Edwards who is working his way through the AFL’s concussion protocols.

Sheed has played the last games in the WAFL as he built his match conditioning.

The inclusion of Sheed was the only change made by the match committee while another celebrated veteran, wingman Andrew Gaff, defender Jamaine Jones and first-year utility player Harvey Johnston have been named as emergencies.

The WAFL Eagles will play in a curtain-raiser against Peel Thunder starting at 2pm. Entry will be available from 1.45pm at Gate D.

This game will also present an opportunity for Eagles fans to their first glimpse of tall forward Archer Reid, the club’s second selection in the National Draft last November.
