The cold and cloudy weather conditions reflected the final score line for the WAFL Eagles on Saturday, falling to Subiaco by 65 points at Sullivan Logistics Stadium.

The Eagles were looking to extend Subiaco’s five-game losing streak but were outmatched against the home side in the 16.16 (112) v 6.11 (47) defeat.

A slippery ground and wetness under foot didn’t work in either team’s favour, and both teams suffered missed opportunities with inaccuracy in front of goal.

Eagles’ debutant Rory Charles opened the scoring account for the visitors with a set shot, before he converted an outstanding snap to notch two majors for the first term.

Subiaco were dangerous inside their forward fifty from the get-go, locking the ball in their front half and kicking three first-term goals from eight scoring shots.

While the Eagles’ only trailed by nine points at the quarter-time break, the Lions turned up the heat in the second term, kicking five goals and holding West Coast goalless.

The third quarter didn’t offer much solace for the Eagles, Tyler Brockman kicking the only goal for the blue and gold, and the team missing a number of opportunities to impact the scoreboard.

Impressive ball movement and pressure around the ball from Subiaco saw them blow the margin out to 59 points going into the final term.

West Coast struggled to move the ball forward all game, missing targets by foot and unfortunate skill errors preventing them from gaining any real momentum.

The Lions held a 72-point lead halfway through the fourth, before West Coast found a little spark, with consecutive goals to Shannon Lucassen, Tyrell Dewar and Coen Livingstone, to reduce the margin back to 53 points.

Subiaco responded through Jake Stergiou, who kicked his second, and Ryan Bouchet put the final nail in the coffin with a goal after the siren to claim the 65-point win.
