Where and when:Â Sullivan Logistics Stadium, Saturday, October 31, 4:15pm
Last time we met: Hawthorn 11.8 (74) defeated West Coast 1.2 (8), round 7, 2024.
West Coast will be looking to turn the tables on Hawthorn after the Hawks claimed a 66-point victory in the sides’ most recent meeting in 2024. The Eagles started brightly with Kellie Gibson kicking the opening goal, but Hawthorn took control from there with its pressure around the contest and ability to transition quickly into attack. Charlie Thomas battled hard in defence with 26 disposals and 680 metres gained, while Beth Schilling recorded seven intercepts in the loss.
What it means for the Eagles: West Coast will be determined to finish their season on a high when they return home to face Hawthorn in the final round of their season. Coming off a spirited performance against Sydney last week, the Eagles will be eager to build on the positives and produce a strong four quarter effort in front of their home fans. A win would provide a fitting finish to the campaign and give the group confidence and momentum to carry into an important off season.
The stat: Co-captain Bella Lewis will make history in her 75th game, becoming the youngest Eagle to reach the milestone.
Oppo in focus: Aine McDonagh
McDonagh shapes as one of Hawthorn’s most dangerous attacking threats and will be a key focus for the Eagles on Saturday. The 2025 All Australian has continued to establish herself as one of the competition’s damaging forwards, using her speed, athleticism and work rate to create opportunities inside 50. McDonagh’s ability to find space, push higher up the ground and impact the scoreboard makes her a difficult matchup for opposition defenders.
It’s a big week for: Belinda Smith
It will be a special afternoon for Belinda Smith, with the experienced defender set to play the final game of her AFLW career against Hawthorn on Saturday. After announcing her retirement following 11 seasons in the competition, Smith will have the opportunity to finish her career in front of the Eagles faithful at home. A respected and reliable presence in West Coast’s backline, Smith will be looking to help the Eagles finish the season strongly in her final appearance.
Big call:Â West Coast to rise to the occasion with a memorable 15 plus win making it their highest winning margin of the season.
