West Coast Eagles co-captain Liam Duggan will be available for Sunday’s battle with the Brisbane Lions at the Gabba, while forward Liam Ryan is a test for round two.

Ryan has been following a modified program after the pre-season hitout against North Melbourne.

“Liam Ryan trained fully last week and was extremely close to playing,” High Performance Manager Mat Inness told westcoasteagles.com.au.

“He was not risked in round one due to some hamstring awareness out of the North pre-season game but should be available this weekend if he gets through training on Thursday.

“Liam Duggan rolled his ankle in the last quarter against Gold Coast.

“He’s pulled up really well and he will be available to play this week.”

Unfortunately, Jake Waterman and Jack Hutchinson are set to spend some time on the sidelines.

“Jake has been managing a disc in his back, which has referred pain to his calf,” Inness said.

“Given the calf pain, we scanned him last week which showed no muscle damage.

“With the stage we were at in the game, we subbed him out as a precaution.

“After further assessment, he won’t be available this weekend due to calf pain from his pre-existing back complaint, and we will reassess next week.

“Jack Hutchinson sustained a moderate grade hamstring in the middle of the last quarter.

“He won’t be available this week and will likely miss three-to-four weeks.”

Rhett Bazzo had surgery at the end of last year to repair a fractured bone in his right foot and is expected to be available for selection this weekend.

“Rhett has been in full training for three weeks now,” Inness said.

“In good news, he will be available for selection for the Brisbane game.”

Coen Livingstone won’t play this weekend after entering concussion protocols following a head knock in the WAFL.

“Coen copped a head knock in the WAFL and failed his concussion test,” Inness said.

“He’s in concussion protocols this week so won’t be available for selection.”
