The Demons broke the game open in the third quarter to overcome the WAFL Eagles, 9.6 (60) to 14.14 (98).

In prime football conditions with no breeze to speak of, it was the goal kicking that proved the only blight on an otherwise perfect day for footy.

What began as an intriguing and tightly fought contest ended in a familiar story for the WAFL Eagles, who faded out in the third quarter to allow Perth to run away with the win.

The match opened with high intensity from both sides, though it took time for that pressure to translate to the scoreboard.

Perth struck first through Aaron Davis, while the Eagles generated space and moved the ball with speed but failed to capitalise.

Shannon Lucassen eventually broke the drought 15 minutes in, rewarding West Coast's work rate.

Tom McCarthy followed with his first goal in Eagles colours, and Malakai Champion extended the lead for West Coast to 10 points by quarter-time.

The second quarter turned into a scrap. Perth clawed back an early goal to reduce the margin and, despite both teams pushing hard, neither could break away.

A burst of three quick goals from the Demons opened the game up late in the term, while Jack Petruccelle’s goal kept West Coast within striking distance.

However, the Eagles struggled under growing pressure and trailed by eight points at the main break.

West Coast looked lively after half-time with Bailey Williams narrowing the gap to two points early in the third. But from there, Perth took over, dominating the midfield battle and swarming forward.

The Demons piled on six goals to one in the third quarter. Their relentless pressure saw them out-muscle the Eagles and blow the game wide open, taking a commanding 37-point lead into the final term.

Charlie Constable dominated the for Demons finishing with 40 disposals, five marks, six tackles and eight inside 50s. Brandon Parfitt was also impressive for Perth notching up 29 disposals, six tackles and a goal.

The Eagles showed spirit in the last quarter, with debutant Jacob Newton booting his first goal for the club to spark a brief fightback.

Petruccelle added his second, followed by quick goals from Hamish Davis and Coen Livingstone to bring the margin back to 23 points.

But the damage had been done. The Demons responded with consecutive majors to steady the ship and secure their second win over West Coast this season.

Despite hard-fought efforts from both midfields in the early stages, Perth’s third-quarter blitz proved decisive.

Malakai Champion impressed with his defensive pressure and energy inside 50, finishing with 12 disposals and three tackles. Clay Hall continued his standout form, racking up 29 disposals, while Tom Gross was also influential with 23 touches.

Looking to put the loss behind them, the Eagles face another tough challenge against Peel Thunder on Saturday at Lane Group Stadium.
