West Coast Eagles coach Daisy Pearce says the excitement is building ahead of the 2025 NAB AFLW season, with the team soaking up the chance to connect with fans during a community camp in Bunbury.
Speaking after training in the South West, Pearce said the camp was not only a great way for the squad to bond but also an opportunity to give back to a passionate footy community.
“A change of scenery and spending time together is always exciting,” Pearce said.
“To get out and see so many junior clubs and schools on the way down here is always a real highlight.”
With pre-season training now in full swing, Pearce said she’s been pleased with how the group is tracking, bolstered by fresh faces Lucia Painter, Lucy Boyd, Charlotte Riggs and Kayla Dalgeish.
“We’ve had some exciting new recruits come in and they've made an immediate impact,” Pearce said.
“They've done an amazing job as individuals, the way they've gotten around each other and the way that the group has embraced them.”
“They've been able to turn up and bank minutes on the track and keep backing up, which is exciting.
“It’s also been great to have Kayley Kavanagh and Annabel Johnson back from long-term injuries, which has been exciting for them but great for our training numbers as well.”
Pearce also praised the return of experienced midfielder Dana Hooker, who is back on track after giving birth to her daughter Zara earlier this year.
“’Hooks’ is so inspiring. She sets the standard with her running and effort every single session. Her experience and leadership has been so powerful,” Pearce said.
With a largely healthy squad and a strong off-season under their belts, Pearce said the vibe around the group was positive and focused.
“The girls can feel their improvement. Another season of learning our system and adding another layer to it, the confidence is building,” Pearce said.
Now well-settled in WA, Pearce said the community support for the club in the South West continues to inspire the team.
“There’s always such a great turn-out when we come down here,” she said.
“It really shows how much people love their footy and the Eagles in this part of the state.”
