West Coast’s match committee will weigh options to replace Tom Cole after coach Andrew McQualter confirmed the experienced defender was set for a stint on the sidelines.

Cole reported hamstring tightness on Tuesday and will miss some football, potentially opening the door for Bo Allan to play a full AFL match or mid-season recruit Tom McCarthy to debut.

“Coley will miss a bit of footy. He’s got an injury there,” McQualter said.

“He’s going to miss a little while, we’re not quite sure how long yet, which is unfortunate for him but as it always does it will provide an opportunity for someone else.

“We don’t know the exact timeframe (for Cole’s return) yet. We’ll work through that as he progresses through his rehab.”

Allan has been starting sub for the past two games while McCarthy has now played two matches for the WAFL Eagles and impressed with his dash and dare off half-back.

“Tom’s played two games for us now but he hasn’t main trained with our group yet. He was back in Melbourne for a personal commitment last week,” McQualter said.

“Today will be his first full training with our group.

“I think the challenge is we really think he can play and he’ll be a long-term player for us but we also want to set him up to succeed and understand what we’re trying to do out there.”

The Eagles will take on Carlton on Sunday in the WA Freeze match supporting Fight MND and former West Coast football manager Neale Daniher's search for a cure to Motor Neurone Disease.

McQualter donned a Fight MND beanie during his media conference while players warmed-up in the beanies during training on Thursday.

“It’s such a great cause and Neale was the GM of Footy here for five years so it has a connection to this footy club,” McQualter said.

“I worked at the Dees last year and saw first hand Neale’s influence on that footy club and the game, and I just think it’s for such a terrific cause.

Last time the Eagles met Carlton they received a thrashing at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round, losing contested ball and clearances by large margins on the way to a 71-point defeat.

West Coast has taken significant strides forward since that encounter, but will need to find a way to nullify star ruck Tom De Koning and the Blues’ star midfield brigade at Optus Stadium.

“Last time we played Carlton we got beaten by 60 in the contest. It was a performance we weren’t proud of so we’ve already spoken about it this week,” McQualter said.

“It’s going to be a big battle this week. We know they’re an incredibly experienced midfield with multiple ways that can hurt you.

“It’s going to be a very important part of the game. We’ll have some really strong plans, we’ll train it hard today and it’s a work in progress for us.”
