A group of senior West Coast Eagles players continue to make progress as they push to be available for the club’s round one clash.
Co-captain Liam Duggan, Jack Graham, Tim Kelly, Brandon Starcevich and Reuben Ginbey are all a chance to take on Gold Coast in the Eagles’ season-opener in 12 days’ time.
Kelly is trending positively after suffering a minor hamstring complaint at training last Wednesday.
“We’ll work Tim through the gears this week and build him back into the main group next week, aiming for him to be available for round one,” High Performance Manager Phil Merriman said.
Developing star Ginbey is also on track after spending a week off his feet to settle a sore toe joint.
“Reuben will begin his reload this week, and we’re hopeful he’ll rejoin main training with the plan for him to be available for round one,” Merriman said.
Co-captain Liam Duggan is set to return to training this week after a head knock in the intraclub, while midfielder Jack Graham (hamstring) is nearing the end of his rehab.
“Pleasingly, Liam has progressed through the concussion protocols and will return to main training this week,” Merriman said.
“We’ll see Jack training with the group this week, and he’s aiming to be available to play in round one.”
Starcevich is moving steadily through his reconditioning program following a calf issue.
“Brandon is progressing as expected through his build,” Merriman said.
“He’s a chance for round one, but given his history, we’re making sure we cover every angle to set him up for an uninterrupted year.”
Among the remaining injured players, defender Harry Edwards continues to work through concussion protocols with his return to play still to be confirmed after a head knock on Sunday against Port Adelaide.
Ruckman Bailey Williams is set to resume full training this week as he recovers from a groin concern.
“We are really excited to see Bailey returning fully to the training track this week. He will spend the next few weeks building his football load,” Merriman said.
Second-year Eagle Tom Gross continues to build toward a return as he increases his running velocities, while Draftee Fred Rodriguez has begun his Alter‑G running program as he works back from a foot injury.
Tyler Brockman will start his run‑loading program this week following a minor ITB procedure and Jack Hutchinson is increasing his on-field running volumes as he recovers from an ankle injury.
