Last time we met: Brisbane 14.10 (94) defeated West Coast 11.9 (75) at The Gabba, round 2, 2025.
The last time the sides met, the Eagles produced one of their most spirited performances of the season, taking a four-goal lead into half-time and holding a narrow advantage at the final change before Brisbane rallied to claim a 19-point victory at the Gabba. West Coast stunned the reigning premiers early with relentless pressure and strong contest work, led by Tim Kelly (29 disposals) and Liam Baker (24). Tyrell Dewar also impressed with two majors as the Eagles pushed Brisbane deep into the final term before the Lions' experience proved decisive in the humid conditions.
What it means for the Eagles: After a competitive 16-point loss to the Western Bulldogs, West Coast return home looking to turn encouraging performances into results. With six games remaining in the season, the Eagles will be eager to build momentum and give their home fans plenty to cheer about against a Brisbane side sitting among the competition's best.
The stat: Despite Brisbane's recent dominance in the fixture, West Coast still holds the overall head-to-head record between the clubs, leading 22 wins to 17 since 1997.
The match-up: Elliot Yeo v Lachie Neale
Two of the competition’s experienced midfielders will go head-to-head when dual Brownlow Medallist Lachie Neale takes on Eagles veteran Elliot Yeo. Neale remains the engine room of Brisbane’s midfield, renowned for his ability to win contested ball and drive his team forward, while Yeo continues to lead by example for West Coast with his toughness, experience and impact around stoppages. Yeo will be looking to set the tone, and if he can match Neale’s influence in the midfield battle, West Coast will give itself every chance to challenge one of the AFL’s powerhouse sides.
It’s a big week for: Rhett Bazzo
Rhett Bazzo has continued to grow in confidence and consistency as part of West Coast's defensive unit, earning his opportunity through strong form down back. The 22-year-old is set to play his ninth AFL game of the season and has impressed since returning to the senior side, showing his ability to intercept, compete aerially and use the ball effectively. He could be handed a key role on Brisbane spearhead Logan Morris, who sits third in the Coleman Medal race with 47 goals, providing another opportunity for Bazzo to showcase his development against elite opposition.
Big call: Harley Reid and Willem Duursma combine for 50+ disposals in a statement performance against one of the competition's best midfields.
