Shannon Hurn was recognised as the AFL’s best captain at Thursday night's AFL Players’ Association awards.

In an award voted by his peers, Hurn led the vote count with 171 votes, finishing ahead of Carlton’s Patrick Cripps (128) and Collingwood’s Scott Pendlebury (82).

The achievement caps off a great week for the Eagles’ skipper, who was also named vice-captain of the All Australian team.

In his fifth season as captain, Hurn has averaged 23.6 disposals and 7.1 marks in 19 games.

The 31-year-old also placed in the competition’s top-10 for rebound 50s (7th), kicks per game (4th), effective disposals per game (7th) and intercepts per game (10th).
