West Coast Eagles premier partner AGL has set the tone for Sunday’s Fight Hunger game day by announcing that it will match all donations made to Foodbank WA via the club’s Carry a Coin initiative.

Launched in 2018, Carry a Coin is an evolution of the original Cans for a Cause campaign, where the club’s OWLs (older, wiser, larger, slower players) helped Foodbank WA volunteers collect canned food items for Western Australians in need.

Last year every dollar donated helped provide two meals to the state’s hungry.

But in 2019 – thanks to the generosity of AGL – every dollar will provide four meals to those in need!

This is a huge commitment from AGL, who already supports Foodbank WA through its existing AGL Metres for Meals campaign.

AGL WA State Manager Jackie Shervington said AGL was proud to extend its support of Foodbank WA in recognition of the important role it plays in fighting hunger in WA.

“We already donate meals to Foodbank WA through the AGL Metres for Meals campaign, which is held in conjunction with the West Coast Eagles, and had no hesitation in getting involved with the Carry a Coin initiative,” Shervington said.

“AGL continues to be a generous supporter of Foodbank WA with its decision to match donations dollar for dollar.”

In recognition of Foodbank WA’s 25th year of fighting hunger, our 2019 fundraising target is 25,000 meals.

Foodbank WA chief executive Greg Hebble said the charity was rapt to have the West Coast Eagles and AGL on their side in the fight against hunger.

“We are absolutely thrilled to have the support of West Coast Eagles and AGL in our 25th year,” Hebble said.

“Not only does it allow us to shine a spotlight on the growing issue of hunger, the money raised will help us to better meet the need for hunger relief throughout the state.”

Foodbank WA is the state’s largest food relief organisation.

In fact, it provides more than 6.1 million meals a year to more than 900 charities and schools across the state.
