Andrew Fisher is loving life as a WAFL Eagle.

The 28-year-old has been a shining light for the team after landing in the nest as one of 15 amateur players enlisted to strengthen the new state league side’s list.

A four-time Perth Football League best and fairest winner, Fisher has quickly become an integral member of the WAFL team’s defensive structure, averaging 17 disposals and 5.5 marks per game through the first four rounds.

The Kingsley Football Club product said he was having a blast testing himself against Western Australia’s top footy talents.

“I’m just enjoying every minute, approaching everything with an open mind and trying to learn as much as I can,” Fisher said.

“Each week is a new challenge in my eyes. I’m just going out there trying to give it a red hot crack and just give 110 per cent. If I can play my role well that’s all I want to do.

“Everyone at the club has been so welcoming. I’m really enjoying my footy and at the end of the day that’s what you want to do.”

Fisher was in a particularly good mood following West Coast’s thrilling two-point win over Claremont last Saturday.

The wily defender said it was a relief to come out on top in the rollercoaster contest.

“We obviously came out firing and we were able to maintain that high intensity in the first quarter, but they hit back and we knew they would because they’re a good side,” Fisher said.

“But full credit to the boys, we hung in there and got the job done. Those last five minutes were tight, really red hot, so it was a relief to get the win in the end.”

As good as that win was, Fisher knows it won’t have any bearing on this Saturday’s contest with South Fremantle.

Several experts expected the Bulldogs to topple down the ladder following the exit of numerous experienced campaigners, but Todd Curly’s men have picked up where they left off in 2018, registering a 3-1 record to start the year.

Fisher said the Eagles would have to be on their A-game to challenge South Fremantle in front of their parochial home ground.

“We enjoyed the win against the Claremont, but we’ll have to get back to the drawing board and get ready for next week’s game against South Freo,” he said.

West Coast goes to war with South Fremantle from 1.15pm on Saturday at Fremantle Oval.
