Star Australian Formula 1 driver Daniel Ricciardo has today been announced as the West Coast Eagles No.1 ticket-holder for the next two years.

Ricciardo, who grew up in Duncraig, has been a life-long supporter of the Eagles and on occasions has dropped into the club gymnasium during his off-season in preparation for the gruelling challenge of a season in his Red Bull race car.

The rising star of the race track assumes the mantle as No.1 ticket-holder from long-serving club doctor and life member Rod Moore.

A keen fan, Ricciardo follows the club’s fortunes as closely as possible via the AFL Live app, from the various destinations that his career takes him around the world.

After the opening race of the 2015 season in Melbourne on Sunday, Ricciardo, 25, could not be at the West Coast season launch to receive his framed No.1 guernsey, but he was delighted to accept the position.

“Thank you for the invitation to be the club’s No.1 ticket-holder. I happily accept this,” Ricciardo said.

“Although I can't be on the ground from over here, I will be urging them on from various tracks across the globe.

“I really, really appreciate this.”

Ricciardo finished sixth in Melbourne and will now get to work on closing the gap between his car and Mercedes, who completed a 1-2 finish at Albert Park.

Ricciardo won three races for his Red Bull team last year, to be third in the drivers’ championship, and like the West Coast Eagles will be looking for more victories this year.
